About Arthur Groom & Co.

In 1975, Arthur Groom founded Arthur Groom & Co., a high-end retail jewelry business located in the heart of Ridgewood. In 1987, he opened a division in Bogotá, Colombia, which concentrated on emeralds and gemstone enhancements. There he developed a revolutionary gemstone enhancement that is now used throughout the world. This process is called ExCel, and it is the only colorless and stable enhancement for emeralds. Arthur Groom’s business has continued to grow, and today has additional locations in New York City and Kabul, Afghanistan.

 

Arthur Groom is a member of the Diamond Dealers Club, the Jewelers of America, the International Color Gemstone Association, the American Gem Society and the American Gem Trade Association. He has also served on the Board of the American National Standards Institute, which develops world standards regarding the regulation of gemstones. Further, Arthur Groom is on the advisory board for the Gem Hall at the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Natural History, and has donated several gemstones which are displayed there. An international expert on jewelry and gemstones, Arthur Groom has had speaking engagements throughout the world.

 

Arthur Groom is also an active member of the local community. He serves on the Board of Directors of Hackensack University Medical Center, and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Bergen-Hudson Chapter of the Arthur Groom & Co. has been a generous supporter of Children’s Aid and Family Services. He recently donated an Eternity Natural Emerald to the March Madness agency gala this past spring. This exquisite necklace, which retailed for $10,000, was raffled and the winner was announced at the gala. The raffle generated a tremendous amount of interest and excitement at the gala and for the agency, and was a phenomenal fundraising success. Arthur Groom also donated 10 percent of his store’s sales during a two-week period in the month of March 2007 to the agency, and underwrote all marketing costs related to the emerald raffle.

 

In December of 2007 Arthur Groom debuted THE ARTHUR GROOM & CO. STARFISH FOUNDATION by donating a 2.41 carat emerald and diamond necklace valued at $25,000.00.  The necklace made for an extraordinary raffle with all proceeds benefiting the new Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center.  Guests and friends of the medical center attended a reception hosted by Arthur Groom at his store in Ridgewood, NJ.
